Meta has rolled out an AI-driven message summarization feature for WhatsApp, initially available to U.S. users in English. The tool generates private summaries of unread chats using Meta's Private Processing technology, which operates without compromising end-to-end encryption. A small icon alerts users to the opt-in feature, invisible to other chat participants.
Expansion to additional languages and regions is planned by year-end. The update builds on Meta's April AI advancements, emphasizing privacy preservation—neither Meta nor third parties can access message content. Android and iOS users receive equal access, reinforcing WhatsApp's commitment to cross-platform parity.
